Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
All summer the boys have been participating in the public library's reading program. Every week they needed to turn in a form with the books they read and then they received a prize. One of the prizes that they got were free tickets to see a Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Game. The Quakes are the minor team that the California Angels recruit their players from. The boys have never been to a game in a big stadium so I thought this would be a good chance to do so! It was also recycle Tuesday so if you brought in 10 cans you got a free ticket and we had a buy one get one free ticket so we only ended up paying a total of $8.00!

As the game got started my dad bought some kettle corn that we all enjoyed sharing!

It was a beautiful night and the mountains were so awesome.

Cornrows
When God first brought Naomi into our lives, her hair had recently been shaved very short. So for 8 months now we have been letting it grow. I have been reading books and getting advice and feel like I have kept a pretty good handle on it. But now it is getting longer and I feel like I need help.
So I talked to my friend, Nicole. Nicole is biracial and has been a huge resource for me. She suggested that I take Naomi to the salon where she goes.
I got an appointment with Deedre at In Vogue. She was great and talked to me a lot about Naomi's hair. She said her hair was dry but very healthy. She said she had very "good" hair, that was very thick and grew fast.
The first thing she did was wash Naomi's hair twice and then condition it.
After that she said that she wanted to blow dry it. I was shocked at how long Naomi's hair actually was. Deedra told me that blowing out the hair makes it so much less painful when the braiding is done. She said often time stylists will try to do it quick and skip the blowing out but it is important. There were two really sensitive parts on her scalp when she cried. I hated to see her crying but it did not seem to phase anyone in the salon and they reassured me that she would get use to it.

And then the braiding started. She made long vertical parts and then put a little bit of blue gel stuff in it and then braided. She went very quick. There were more tears when she braided on those same tender spots but before we knew it she was done. Then she put beads on the
tips. She let Naomi pick out the colored heart beads.

My parents and the boys couldn't believe it when we walked in the door. I did my own little photo shoot in the backyard. We feel like she looks so much older. Here are some of our favorites!

In search of Michael Jacksons Star
I have always been a huge Michael Jackson Fan! I really love his music.
Two weeks ago we spent a few days with my brother Dave and his family. They live in Los Angeles. One night I asked them if they could take me to see Michael Jackson's star. So we loaded up in the minivan on a quest to find the star.
It happen to be the same night that the top finalists in American Idol were having their concert in LA so the traffic was terrible. But we did see all their cars pass by escorted by the police on the freeway. When we finally got to our destination, found parking, and got out, all of us were ready to do some walking.
We only walked a few short blocks before we got there. There was a pretty big crowd gathered around his star and you had a wait and kind of push your way in to get a look. There was a man with a CD player, playing MJ's music and dancing and tons of people taking pictures.

We waited patiently and finally got our turn to get down by the star. I left Naomi in her stroller with Laura, there was just too many people to take her out.

I am glad I went and I felt like I was able to pay my respects to him.
The Shedd Family
When we first moved to Hawaii, almost 5 years ago, one of the first people we met was the family that lived across the street from us, The Shedd Family. Lauren and I hit it off right away and so did the boys. Micah was 4, Charlie was 3, Jacob was 2 and Alex was 1.
We both grew up in Southern California, about 45 minutes apart but we are quite different in a lot of ways. We have different tastes, especially in clothes for our kids! We had so many fun adventures in Hawaii together and our boys were like brothers.
Then, as it always does in the Navy life, people move often. The Shedd family was being transferred to Japan. We were so sad but on Micah's Spring Break from Kindergarten I packed the boys up and got on a MAC flight and we flew to Japan. It was truly a once in a life time adventure and the Shedds showed us the best time.
After that they were able to come see us once in Hawaii before they got transferred to Tennessee. Well 2 weeks ago it just so happened that we were both going to be in California at the same time! We couldn't wait to see each other and now we both have daughters!
The boys played together like no time had passed and Lauren and I talked as much as we could fit into our visit.
We love you Shedd family and miss you so much every time we have to say goodbye!
