It has been about 5 years since we have lived on a military base. We lived on the base in New Jersey and loved it and had such dear friends that we still keep in touch with. It feels a lot like college to me, because everyone is going through the same thing together.
We have been here 3 1/2 months now and it is starting to feel like home. And one thing that I love about the Navy is the BBQ's. There doesn't have to be a reason, people in the Navy love to have BBQ's! It is not like at home where it is mostly family and a few friends because hardly anyone has family here. It is a bunch of people getting together, and having fun. Of course there are all different kinds of BBQ's. Now that we have a family we don't go to the wild BBQ's. But there is some unwritten rule that if you get invited you need to show up, Darrick says it helps things go better at work.
Tonight our neighbors invited us over for a BBQ. Just the boys and I went. Darrick is back but he has duty today so we can't see him until tomorrow. We had so much fun. I really love our neighbors. God truly blessed us with great people to live by. We come from all over the USA but we all have a common bond, the Navy. We laughed and talked and ate yummy food. The kids played and it is just a real sense of family and support for one another.
I think it is hatching time for the geckos because there are baby geckos everywhere and the boys love it! Tonight after the BBQ Micah was able to catch one, they are a lot slower then the adults. He loved it and talked to it (Jacob pulled its tail off on accident) and then set it free to find its parents he said. I posted a picture below.

I'm so happy to hear that things are getting better! (I AM a little jealous about your new friends though!) ;o) It really makes me smile (I totally have this big silly grin on my face!) to know that you're happy and you have great neighbors and friends. We both know that friends play a big role in "sustaining" you when Darrick is away.
I love the pic of Micah and the gecko! I didn't know they were so small! He really is all boy, huh? :o)
I like the shoes off thing - maybe I'll start instituting that in my home... :o)
OK - the trash thing... I have a feeling that's hard for you to get used to. Like, for me, I like things to happen when they're supposed to happen. You know? My SCHEDULED trash day is Tuesday! Don't pick it up on THURSDAY! :o)
Oh, I've also started craving Acapulco enchiladas. I know... I shouldn't mention them. I already checkec and there are no Acapulco's in HI. Maybe I can figure out some way to ship them to you frozen...Hmm...that's an interesting idea. Would it cost a lot? Would they taste good? I'll have to look into that. :o)
Love ya all SOOOOOOOOO much!!!
P.S. You're links did turn out great! You're a comupter wiz now!
Ah, I miss the fun nite and Jenn's puppy chow!
