Six Week Post Op

Today I had my six week post op appt.  It was pretty uneventful.  The Dr. asked how I am feeling.  I said awesome.  He did a vaginal check to make sure things are healing up.  He said he did not feel anymore stitches, but things did not feel totally healed.  So just be careful and try not to lift really heavy things.  Praise God!  I am so happy to put this whole ordeal behind me and move on to good health.

I have been very careful about avoiding gluten and I think that with the surgery has me feeling better then I ever have.  Now that I feel so good, I realize that I have not been good for longer then I realized.

In other news here is a cute picture of Oliver and Zelda.  They are becoming friends and usually play around in the morning chasing each other.
Jacob made it home safely from camp.  He had a lot of fun but was home sick.  He said he felt especially sad one day and cried so one of the counselors took him to the office so he could call home.  We talked for about 10 minutes and he sounded better by the end of the conversation.  He said his favorite part was the rock wall climbing.  So all in all it was a good experience but I am very glad to have my little bird back in the nest!

Zelda

Yesterday afternoon we went and picked up Zelda.  Micah was so excited he could hardly contain it.  He set up a whole area for her so that it would be ready when he brought her home.  We decided that the best place for her would be by Micah's bed so that he could hear her if she cried during the night.
When we arrived at the house, the owner handed Zelda to Micah and the mom cat did not even seem to mind.  Surprisingly, it was one of the dogs that seemed to be having an anxiety attack.  It was whimpering and following Micah.  The owner said that the dog was like a second mother to the kittens.  The poor dog even followed us all the way to the car.  Micah tried to hold her but Zelda wanted to crawl all over the car so he put her in the cat carrier.

We had to go to soccer practice for Jacob before we could go home and Zelda did great and slept in her carrier the whole time.

When we finally got her home, she was pretty scared and as soon as Micah put her in her area she hid in her cat house.
It took about 2 hours before she was ready to come out.  Micah just sat patiently in her area reading a book.  When she did come out she was very playful and they kids had so much fun watching her!

It is really awesome to watch Micah nurture this sweet little kitten.  He talked so gently to her trying to make her feel safe and comfortable.  By the end of the night his efforts had paid off because when she was tired, she curled up in his lap and went to sleep.

She did really good during the night.  Micah said she woke up around 3am and was crying so Micah got up and played with her.  He was up with her for about 2 hours.  He said she ate and drank some water too.  Around 6am they both feel asleep again and slept more.  Micah did great and we are proud of him.

Zelda

Micah has wanted a cat for many years.  We have some family pets, like Oliver, but the kids also have pets at times that are just theirs.  Micah had an adorable dwarf hamster but she died last summer.  He thought about getting a hermit crab but still always went back to a cat.  Someone we know had a cat that recently had kittens and said Micah could have one.  So last week Micah went and picked her out.  Introducing Zelda-yes he named her after the video game character!
She was still drinking milk from her mom last week so he could not take her home.

But today we got an updated photo and report on Zelda!
She is active!  She is also still nursing a bit but she is eating dry food and using the litter box.  The owner thinks she may be able to come and live with us next week!  We are all super excited!

Oliver

Our dog, Oliver, can be such a good sport.  Naomi likes to dress him up in all kinds of clothes.  It usually gives us all a really good laugh!
The other day she dressed him up in my Halloween costume, yes mine.  I was a Bee last Halloween and I looked cute!  When I saw it on Oliver it was too cute to pass up!  Photo op!  Enjoy!

He's BACK!!!

Today marks two weeks since we lost Todd.  This morning I had Jacob clean out Todd's cage so we could put it away in the garage.  Then wouldn't you know it, while Darrick and the boys were out, our neighbor came over holding Todd.  I just kept saying "I can't believe it!"
I put Todd in a tub with a blanket over it to surprise Jacob when he got home.  When he looked under the towel he was so confused.  He said "Did you buy me a new tortoise?"  And I said "No it is Todd" and he just couldn't believe it.
When he realized it really was Todd, he was so overjoyed and happy.  He gave Todd a bath and cleaned him up.  Then set his cage all up and put him back in his home.  We all have happy hearts tonight!

A hard day for Jacob

Our beloved Tortoise, Todd, is lost.  You may wonder "How exactly do you lose a tortoise in the first place?  They can't exactly run away!"

One of Jacob's chores is to spend 10-15 minutes a day interacting with his pet, Todd.  Friday was such a beautiful sunny day here that we were all outside.  Darrick and I were getting the flowerbeds in the front yard in shape and the kids were playing in the front and the back.

Jacob decided to spend time outside with Todd, which he has done many times before.  He put him in one of our raised garden boxes to dig around.  He then saw Micah doing something and started playing with him.  He remembered to check on Todd twice but then got busy and forgot about him.

On Saturday, one of Jacob's chores is to clean Todd's cage.  It was then that he remembered.  He panicked and ran into the backyard.  We didn't know what was wrong but soon got the story.  And by then Todd was no where to be found.

We searched all afternoon for Todd.  We checked with all the neighbors and hung up posters but as of today we still have not found him.  He could of dug under our fence and into the neighbors yards or he could be burrowed deep in the ground in our yard or some creature could of got him-we just don't know.

Jacob is heartbroken.  It is such a terrible lesson to learn and it hurts me that I can't fix it.

Micah's new pet

About a week after Jacob bought Skitttles, Micah decided that he wanted to spend his allowance on a dwarf hamster too. Welcome Butterscotch!

The boys have been taking their time letting the girls get use to them. They finally decided to try to hold them. Jacob was a bit nervous so he thought he should put some socks on his hands!

They are easy pets to have! The only one who does not like them is Oliver. He barks at them so we have to put him another room while the girls are out.
Their little tails are so cute!

Skittles

When the school year started, we also started a chore and allowance system. Jacob decided that he wanted to save his allowance to buy a pet one day while we were at PETCO. He fell in love with the dwarf (Djungarian) hamsters he saw and set that as his goal.

Yesterday was the big day, that he had enough money, to go get his pet. I have to admit, it is super cute and he named it Skittles.

Jacob has the most tender heart for animals and he adores them so much.
