Tonight I was so happy with our new backyard setup. While I was making dinner the boys played outside the whole time. For those of you who are not parents, dinner time is one of the most difficult times of the day. The kids are tired and hungry and you are trying to get dinner together-it is very stressful. But tonight was so different, I just did my thing in the kitchen and I could hear the boys playing so nicely. It was a lifesaver.
We are all pretty tired since we brought Darrick to the ship this morning. They will be out to sea for a few days this week. Only one more out to sea time next week and then Darrick will be home all summer because the ship will be in the yeards!!!
We forgot to say that the Hopper soccer team has made it to the finals! We will see what happens!

Frogs love us!
We had a busy but good day today. The boys and I ran a lot of errands this morning. This afternoon we worked on setting up our backyard. Since the boys are getting older they are able to play without me right next to them at all times. So I thought I would set up the backyard so they can play out there. We dragged Tuggy from the frontyard to the back as well as the picnic table and other outdoor toys. We put a canopy up to give shade and a relaxing chair for me to sit in. Tonight we went to Walmart and I bought a red impatients plant to set by my chair. We are very pleased with the set up.
This morning when we went to water our pumpkin plants we noticed a few big holes in the dirt. I couldn't think what they were from. Upon further investigation and some moving of the pumpkin leaves we discovered that a frog has decided to make our box his new home. He seemed quite content buried in the dirt and hiding under the leaves. We posted his picture below.
Tonight when I went to put my new plant in the backyard I counted 5 frogs jumping around. When I walked around they would jump smack into our fence and fall down-it was pretty funny. For some reason they love our yard, and we actually love having them there!

Happy Memorial Day!
Since Darrick had the day off today we thought we would go to the beach. The boys always get up early so we thought we could get a good start in case it would be packed. We decided to go to Lanikai Beach since Darrick had not been there yet. We stopped at Jamba Juice for some smoothies and then hit the road.
We got to the beach at 9 am and there were some people there but we found a parking space and room for us on the beach. It was windy today and a little overcast so we were a little cold. KMart had a sale last week on beach stuff and Darrick and I got some snorkel gear that we wanted to try out. We each took a turn and saw some fish and really cool coral. Micah played in the waves and Jacob likes us to hold him in the water. We ate sandwiches and then left around 12:30. By then the beach was packed.
In the afternoon after we cleaned everything up we watched Star Wars I and II. Last week we watched our neighbors daughter so they could see episode III. They said then they would watch the boys so we could go see it. But first we wanted to be refreshed. The boys watched with us on and off and you guessed it now they both think that they are "Jedi Masters". Friday we are going to go see episode III and are really looking forward to it...don't tell us what happens!

Aloha Anuenue...
Today was our last day worshipping at Anuenue. We were surprised by our friends Troy and Bow giving each one of us a lei. Mine had beautiful flowers that smelled so sweet, Darrick's had really cool berries and leaves and the boys each got a candy lei-which they thought was so cool! It was really touching to know that we would be missed even though we were only there for about 4 months.
We are excited to look for a new church home. We have a couple in mind. Next week we are going to try Hope Chapel West Oahu. It was recommened to us by Troy and Bow. We checked out their website and it looks good so we will see.
The rest of our day was spent picking up the house, doing laundry and mowing the lawn. I went over to the Goodwill today because they were having a 50% off everything sale. I spent $47.00 and got a ton of stuff. About 10 children's videos and a lot of nice clothes for the boys. I even found a pair of new swim trunks for Darrick. It is pretty much like any other Goodwill except for 2 things: they play hawaiian music on the radio and I have never seen so many Aloha (Hawaiian) shirts in my life! They are all arranged by colors so it is just a rainbow of any type of Aloha shirt you could possibly want. I bought a few for the boys that were pretty cute. I love finding good deals!

Aloha Jeff!
Well today Jeff left paradise...we miss him so much! It was so awesome having a part of home here but it hurts when he leaves. But we have so many good memories. I read somewhere that "A memeory is a picture you take with your heart". That is very fitting today.
Well we had pancake morning and then helped Jeff pack up. We went to Darrick's soccer game but the other team didn't show up so Darrick's team won. Then we brought Jeff to the airport. I tried to hold in my tears but they just kept coming...
Then we went to KMart and got some shopping done. From there we went to a BBQ and pool party for our Bible Study. It was the end of the year celebration because tomorrow will be our last Sunday at Anuenue and a few families are moving away.
The boys spent a lot of time in the pool with Darrick and I. The house we went to had such a beautiful view overlooking Kaneohe Bay. We walked down a little hill to the edge of their property and Darrick took Jacob and I on a kayak ride around the bay at Sunset. It was so relaxing and romantic. Micah didn't want to get out of the pool so he didn't go. We had yummy food and dessert.
But now we are feeling exhausted and ready for a good night sleep!

Lanikai Beach
Since today is Jeff's last full day we wanted to do something relaxing. My neighbor Lauren had told us about a really wonderful beach. It is suppossed to be one of the most beautiful beaches here and it was! The sand was so fine it was like powder. The ocean was so clear and blue and the water was warm. It was a perfect day. Micah and Jeff swam in the water while Jacob and I played in the sand.
On our way home we stopped at Dave's Ice Cream and enjoyed a treat! It is made in Hawaii and is really yummy.
After baths and a little rest we headed to the ship to have dinner with Darrick. He has duty today so we picked up KFC and ate it with him on the mess decks. Then we headed to the commissary to get some groceries.
Micah cried tonight when we told him that tonight is Jeff's last night. I feel sad too. I think I feel more sad because I do not know the next time that I will see him. It is so awesome to be with family. It makes home seem not so far away...

Byodo-In Temple
Today we went to the Byodo-In Temple. It is a replica of a 900 year old temple in Japan. It was so amazing and beautiful. There are streams and it is so peaceful and quiet. Inside the temple is an 18 foot Buddha covered in gold laquer. Before you go in to see him you have to remove your shoes.
Outside the temple is the Bon-Sho or Sacred Bell. It weighs 3 tons and is 6 foot 8 inches. Ringing the bell is said to cleanse the mind of all evil temptations through its lingering tones. It was so heavy Micah could not do it alone. When it rang you could hear it through out the entire area.
In the ponds surrounding the temple are over 1000 Koi. They represent order and longevity. We learned a new fact that Koi fish are known to live for up to 100 years, so think twice if you are thinking of getting one.
In the afternoon we played outside and watered the lawn. We played baseball, soccer and frisbee.

Sea Life Park
Last night we had such a good time with our friends for dinner. Darrick even made it home from work in time to join us. We had fajitas and we cut up a fresh pineapple. It was so delicious. If you have never eaten a pineapple from Hawaii, you are totally missing out! They are so awesome and melt in your mouth, we can't get enough! Then we had two different pies for dessert. Jeff interviewed Troy and we all learned some new knock knock jokes.
Today we took the beautiful drive on the H3 to Sea Life Park. We started out in the sun by our house, drove through pounding rain and ended back in beautiful clear sunny weather. We had a good time watching fish, rays and sea turtles. We watched the sea lion and dolphin shows and enjoyed a picnic lunch.
We feel like this week is flying by and Micah said tonight at dinner that he doesn't want Da to leave and was wondering if he could stay for 3 years.
Good thing we still have a few more days to enjoy our special visitor!

We're ok!
Yes, we are ok, we have just been really busy! It is nice to know that people are out there reading our blog and that they miss it when we don't write. So I will catch you up.
Saturday: We went to the Dole Plantation. We fed the koi fish and rode the Pineapple Express train. Then we had a treat, Jeff had a chocolate covered pineapple on a stick and we had a Dole whip. In the evening, our neighbors watched the boys and we went to our first luau with our friends Troy and Bow. The view was amazing, right on the beach. We had yummy food and watched a show.
Sunday: After church we headed to North Shore. We ate lunch at Cholo's, a mexican restaraunt. Then we headed to a beach. Darrick found a nice sandy new beach. We were surprised when we got in the water and there were 2 huge sea turtles swimming right by us. The waves pushed one into Darrick and it almost knocked him down. After our time at the beach we headed to Matsumoto's for a shave ice. I tried something new and ordered mine with a scoop of vanilla ice cream at the bottom-it was so good! Then we drove around and enjoyed the sights. We later stopped at a hambuger place and got dinner to go. We took it to a beach park and ate it. Then we walked to the sand and watched the sun set. Every once in a while we saw turtles stick there heads out of the water. After the sun went down we headed home.
Monday: We rested! The boys especially were feeling pretty tired so we took a day of rest. The only thing we did was go to the commissarry.
Tuesday: Today we went to the Aquarium in Waikiki. You can go through the whole thing in about an hour so it was a nice morning outing. Tonight Troy and Bow are coming over for dinner for fun and so that Jeff can interview Troy for his study of Hawaii!
So as you can see we have been very busy! Aloha!

Darrick's home!
We spent a relaxing morning at home. We had been going so many places, we were all pretty tired. Jeff slept in and I caught up on some laundry and household chores. We played in our little pool and had lunch outside. Jeff is getting a little color-he was so white when he first got here!
After lunch we went to Hickam Airforce base to a place where the ships pass by when they pull back into Pearl Harbor. Darrick told us what time to be out there to see the USS Hopper go by. That is the first time we have ever seen his ship sailing, it was pretty cool.
Around 5 pm Darrick got off the ship and we headed to Waikiki for dinner. We ate at Bibas which is in the Hale Koa. The Hale Koa is a resort for military. We had a great dinner out on the lanai (Patio). Then we headed to the beach because the Hilton, which is right next to the Hale Koa, shoots off fireworks every Friday night. They were awesome and a great end to our day!

Another great day!
My wonderful neighbor Lauren watched the boys for me today so that Jeff and I could do some activites that were not very kid friendly. She is a brave woman and took 4 little boys to the Zoo! The boys had such a great day and so much fun with their friends!
Even though it was overcast and drizzling Jeff and I headed out to Hanauma Bay. We got there early and it was not very crowded. I slipped on the wet stairs but caught myself on a bar. I hurt my arm but besides that I was ok.
After we got all of our snorkel gear on we headed out to the water. It was hard to walk in the shallow water with our fins but we made it! We had such a great time and saw some beautiful fish. We were not cold in the water but when we got out we were pretty cold. So after drying off we headed to our next activity.
We sighned up for a tour of 'Iolani Palace. Hawaii use to have a King and this was the palace he built, it was great. The palace was nice but even better was our docent. She was amazing and had so much knowledge that Jeff and I both learned so much. Kids 5 and under are not allowed on the tour so it was so nice of my neighbor to have the boys.
Jeff and I are both feeling pretty sore from snorkeling, I guess we used muscles we don't use very often! Hopefully we can get out of bed in the morning!

Bishop Museum
Usually I write my posts at night, but I am completely exhausted and am going to try to get to bed early tonight. Jeff is playing soccer in the backyard with the boys so I thought I would write my blog. They just called me because they found a frog!
We started off our day by going out to breakfast at Hickam Airforce Base at the Wright Bros. Cafe. It was really yummy and we saw two big ships sail by.
From there we headed to Bishop Museum. The map I had was wrong and we ended up in downtown Honolulu. We were pretty lost but eventually found our way. We had a good time at the museum. We went to a planeterium-which Micah loved! And we looked at all the Hawaiian culture exhibits, it was so interesting.
On our way home we stopped at MWR on the base to rent snorkel gear for Jeff and I for tomorrow. Curious about what we are doing...check out our blog tomorrow!
